Red Bus Bistro

What can be better than afternoon tea aboard a vintage red double decker bus on a sunny Saturday afternoon? The afternoon tea is available everyday apart from Mondays and there are two time slots – 12pm and 3pm. We went on the 12pm slot and I had bought the tickets for £22.50 each on itison.com, and I have seen the offer come up a few times since. You will pay £34.50 via their website so it’s a decent saving.

Afternoon tea consisted of finger sandwiches with fillings of ham and mustard, salmon, and egg mayonnaise. The sandwiches weren’t my favourite, however the cupcakes were delicious, topped with buttercream and cute wafer flowers. The mini white chocolate éclairs were a firm favourite of mine! My friend Michelle had a great idea, bringing along a lunchbox for the leftovers as there was no way we could eat all the cakes!

As part of our afternoon tea, we received a glass of prosecco and a tea or coffee. Due to the bumpiness of the bus, we were given our hot drinks in a cup with a secure lid which worked really well and had the red bus logo on it which I thought was really fitting. Mini quiches, hot from the oven, were also being passed around and there was a plentiful supply. We had brought some pink champagne along and you can pay £5 corkage, however we actually felt fine with all the tea and prosecco that we saved it until later when we got off the bus. You can also book out the bus for hen or stag parties and there is an afternoon gin tour available too. We were picked up and dropped off at Waterloo place very near to Waverley train station. We were sat with another couple of ladies and we chatted away to them which was a really nice experience. Customer services are really helpful too as I had to cancel my original booking and re-book, which was no issue at all.

The afternoon was topped off with some pink fizz in Princes Street gardens on our cute little picnic blanket. Perfect girly day out in beautiful Edinburgh, I’d highly recommend you get onboard the red bus bistro.
