On a recent visit to Central Australia taking in the sights of Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon, I was based in Alice Springs feeling pretty ravenous the morning after a 3 day camping trip sleeping outside in swags and munching on camp fire food.
I was in the mood for brunch-type fare and luckily the cute little courtyard, which houses Page 27 Cafe, caught my eye.
Truth be told, I wasn’t expecting much from Alice Springs in the brunch stakes but I was pleasantly surprised. I found it tough to choose what I wanted on their tasty sounding menu. I started with the ‘Pine Fresh’ juice, consisting of pineapple, watermelon and mint, it was delicious!
Next up is my scrumptious veggie breakfast which included a crispy potato rosti, 2 poached eggs, mushrooms, grilled tomato, spinach, a slice of toast and grilled halloumi, accompanied with a tomato relish for dipping. Halloumi seems to be somewhat of a firm favourite on the breakfast menus in Australia and it didn’t disappoint!
The Full Chapter was the works, consisting of everything I had minus the halloumi and spinach but with the addition of crispy bacon and chorizo. It was polished off nicely with only one minus which we both agreed on, the eggs were a little watery which probably could be fixed by blotting them on some kitchen roll. Nevertheless I wouldn’t hesitate in eating here again and recommend Page 27 Cafe for your brunch fix, especially after a few nights in The Outback.
