On a recent visit to Central Australia taking in the sights of Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon, I was based in Alice Springs feeling pretty ravenous the morning after a 3 day camping trip sleeping outside in swags and munching on camp fire food. Continue reading →
Adelaide, or the city of churches as it’s otherwise known, seems to pale in comparison to the big wigs such as Sydney, Melbourne and even Brisbane, but after spending 5 days in and around the area, I’d like to tell you why Adelaide, or indeed South Australia, should most definitely be your next long weekend or a must see spot for those travelling from further afield. I stumbled upon Nom Nom Korean during my first few weeks living in Brisbane. I found myself at a loose end craving something fresh yet flavoursome for lunch. I was enticed by Bakery Lane, where Nom Nom is situated. An enchanted looking little lane off Ann Street in Fortitude Valley not far from from Brunswick Street Mall that takes you to a courtyard of foodie heaven. You can get coffee in a cone from Flock Coffee, delicious looking crepes from Le Petit Paris Bakery and 2-4-1 Steak frites on Tuesdays from The Apo, which is only some of the great delights awaiting you. Well it’s been 7 weeks since we arrived in the land of Oz and boy have we done a lot in that time. I find it rare that I have a day where I get to totally please myself, without having to think about work, household tasks or pre-arranged plans. I used to be the kind of person up until about a year and a half ago where I’d have weekends planned in advance for weeks on end. I’ve come to loathe being too busy and instead I’d rather have more space to be spontaneous. I believe it’s really important to nurture and take care of myself by resting and allowing myself to get a little bit bored instead of running at a 100 mile an hour pace all the time.
