Champany | Tuggy Tucks In

My sister-in-law & brother-in-law gifted us a voucher to Champany for our Christmas and we finally got round to using it on Friday 2nd June just before it ran out.

Described as ‘a restaurant with rooms’ based on the French concept, Champany is situated on the outskirts of Linlithgow on the road to Bo’ness & Blackness close to the motorway slip road to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling… We live close-by and wanted to enjoy some alcoholic beverages so we parked our car overnight and collected it in the morning. They have a wine shop with an array of South African wines to choose from and some others, some whisky and gin too.

We were seated in the most lavish round room, it reminded us of our wedding venue. We ordered the Bordeaux red wine which paired perfectly with our steak.

We ordered the pâté with oat cakes and piri piri prawns to start, both were mouth-watering, the prawns maybe a little eye-watering but I liked the spiciness!

Now for the main event… I am always distracted by beautiful looking food and I saw a photo of the hand-cut prime rib on their Instagram and I had to have it! It’s for sharing and you pay per 100g, we went for 1000g, it was succulent and everything you would want from a steak. I had a bernaise sauce and Gavin the pepper. We had a salad and chips to share.

The servers were so attentive, wine topped up, offer of 3 different mustards or horse radish with the steak. The food was exquisite!

The bar was fully stocked, we had espresso martinis to finish off in the bar area because we were far too full for dessert.

The experience felt really special but we both said we’d return for their burgers too, which are reasonably priced and we sampled them as takeaway during lockdown. They were fantastic and they do lots of different combinations – Mexican, blue cheese etc. I liked the look of the table upstairs from the bar, in amongst the wine bottles. We walked home via the path on the side of the road to Linlithgow and it was a good way to walk off a big dinner on a sunny night.
