I have been to Eden Mill before on a tour of their brewery and for some beer tasting, that was probably about two years ago now. Today we visited their distillery and enjoyed a gin flight courtesy of the two tickets we received in their limited edition ’12 gins of Christmas’ gift box which, FYI will be relaunched this coming Christmas with entirely new limited edition gins!

The place has changed a lot since I visited last. Situated on the old Guardbridge paper mill and once the site of Haig Club Scotch Whisky, they now boast a bigger gift shop showcasing their new black and white branded beers and growing gin collection including ‘love gin’ and their newly launched ‘golf gin’ for 2016. There’s plans to expand further however, St Andrew’s University are moving in and building a biomass plant and there’s talk of creating a fair few new jobs in the area.

You get a complimentary mini golf bag when you buy your golf gin. Starting out in 2012 as Eden Brewery first of all, it’s great to see a Scottish business flourish and grow, gin is the drink of the moment and Eden Mill is a true contender in the market, selling in 30 states in the US and having newly launched in China and Hong Kong. Whisky is their much anticipated next venture, towards the end of 2017 will see them launch their first whisky at 3 years and 1 day old.

Their gin flight was superb – love gin finished with rose water and raspberry garnish, oak gin and ginger beer with an orange to garnish and then finally hop gin with chilli garnish, my personal fave! 

To get in on the action yourself it’s approximately £7.50 for a brewery tour/tasting and £20 for the gin experience. However we got our brewery tour for £6.50 for two of us on deal websites like itison and wowcher and our gin tour was because we bought the gift set of gins – very worthwhile way of getting a tour! We took the train from Edinburgh Haymarket to Leuchars £17.50 return, it took approx 50 mins and you can walk to the brewery/distillery it will probably take you 15 mins, however there are taxis waiting at the station and buses. We then took a taxi into St Andrews, we were ravenous after sampling the gin quite early in the day – midday! 

Sunday lunch

The Adamson stood out to me as I did a wee trip advisor flick, situated on South Street right in the hub of St Andrews we were greeted by friendly staff and promptly seated. It was a modern chique looking establishment that oozed class. We had already decided on our mains – the Adamson burger for me and the steak sandwich for Gavin but the waitress mentioned the roast and we both quickly changed our minds. It arrived pink in the right places with cute little pots of red wine jus and horseradish. The carrots had been cooked in sweet honey and the crispy Yorkshire pudding with a soft gooey centre was how Sunday’s should taste.

There was just enough room in our tummies to leave us wanting more….

I had the sticky toffee pudding accompanied with all the good stuff- clotted cream ice cream and a butterscotch sticky sauce. Gavin opted for the Adamson sundae – White chocolate mousse milk sorbet, raspberries garnished with basil.
