I had the most wonderful Christmas dinner lately at The Urban Fox. I was invited along to a blogger event where I got to reconnect with the lovely Hayley from blog Honestly Russell and meet the equally lovely Charlene McElhinney and Bethany Jane from blog Adventure and Anxiety.
I started my night with a warming and tasty mulled wine which really got me into the Christmas spirit. The Urban Fox has such a cosy, welcoming feel about it. Suitably decorated with foxy features.
The Urban Fox is in a pretty perfect location just a stone’s throw away from The Meadows and Summerhall. For my Festive menu starter I opted for the goats cheese, beetroot and pine nut salad with garlic and herb crostini. A good little veggie option, it was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. I loved how the creaminess of the cheese complimented the crispiness of the crostini. A couple of the girls had the winter vegetable soup which they said was a like a warm hug in a bowl.
I went all out and ordered the traditional turkey Christmas dinner with all the trimmings as I normally eat beef on Christmas Day. It was a mammoth portion but hey it’s Christmas after all! The turkey wasn’t dry like it sometimes can be, the cranberry sauce was a good addition to all the yummy flavours on my plate. I liked the Yorkshire pudding filled with gravy and the baby carrots, the pigs in blankets and the stuffing too! I found the sprouts a little on the crunchy side but not offensive, it’s difficult to perfect the seasonal sprout, I equally hate mushy ones so maybe I’m just a tad fussy!
Dessert was divine – We all ordered it, sticky toffee pudding with hot toffee sauce and cinnamon ice cream. It was to die for but there was heaps of it, half of the portion would have been enough. The cinnamon ice cream was a lovely twist.
The Urban Fox is relatively new on the Edinburgh restaurant scene, around since April 2018, I can see this place going from strength to strength. From when I entered up until when we left, the staff were approachable and accommodating, the decor has an inviting feel about it and the food summed up Christmas to a tee. With a couple of more weeks to go I’d say you should check out The Urban Foxes festive menu or if not, make a point of stopping by in the new year. I’m definitely keen to check out what else their menu has to offer.
