Bridge Inn | Tuggy Tucks In

I’ve just had what can be described as the most perfect Sunday this Sunday past. We booked in advance for a 12 o’clock lunch at the Bridge Inn, Ratho and we were luckily blessed with glorious sunshine as we enjoyed their outdoor seating area complete with canal views.

Having recently purchased bikes (like the rest of the nation) we cycled along the canal from Fountainbridge which took a mere 45 minutes from city centre Edinburgh. We are really lucky to have such a lush green city with lots of walks and cycles which makes you feel a million miles away from the centre of town. Since we arrived at Ratho so early, we continued along the canal path for a short while. On approach to Ratho we were greeted by the swans and their cygnets as well as the lovely colourful canal boats.

We were welcomed by the very friendly staff at the Inn and informed about all of the Covid procedures as well as having a handy information leaflet on our table to refer to. Considering this was the first time we were ordering food in months we were both made to feel relaxed pretty quickly. You could even order from their new app if you wanted to which we saw lots of customers doing, we opted for table service this time but there’s definitely a place for the app especially with the place filling up as quickly as it did. I would highly recommend booking to avoid disappointment. There’s a handy parking spot for your bike too, within sight of the indoor tables which was good for me as I haven’t gotten round to buying a lock yet!

A pint always tastes better after a bit of exercise! I went for a Magners cider and Gavin had one of their many local beers on offer, a Holyrood IPA.

For Gavin it had to be the burger for lunch, on a previous visit I’d had their macaroni cheese which was divine but I could feel a burger coming on too which was a great decision as it was juicy and hit the spot preparing us for the cycle home.

So we cycled home with our bellies full and smiles on our faces. The Bridge Inn is perfectly positioned for canal cycles and walks (we’ve done that before too) there’s also a Lothian bus route or a spacious car park to take advantage of. Things are changing all the time with government restrictions being lifted I find their Instagram a handy source of information.
